Habitat
Moist highland grassland. Above 2,300 m.
Kenya (B) (NB).
Highlands of west-central Kenya on each side of Rift Valley (Molo, Mau Narok, Aberdare Mts, and possibly Kinangop Plateau).
 
Population
Estimated population is 50,000 - 99,999 (2010) and decreasing.
Status VU
Habitat destruction, degradation and fragmentation through expanding cultivation and intensified livestock production, is the main threat.

Voice
Mixture of 'peeuu tew tew' and shorter trills. Mostly silent except when breeding.

Sometimes treated as conspecific with Stout Cisticola (Cisticola robustus ).
No subspecies.
Similar Species
Stout Cisticola (Cisticola robustus ) which has a rufous nape and hindneck and slightly longer tail.
