Habitat
Breeds on tundra, in Scotland on Arctic-Alpine heath having sedges, moses and lichens that are interspersed with rocks, scree and gravel.

Subspecies
Forms superspecies with Rock Sandpiper (Calidris ptilocnemis ). Formerly considered conspecific with Rock Sandpiper (Calidris ptilocnemis ).
