Subspecies
Exhibits some affinities to Subtropical/Tropical Moist Lowland. Subspecies albimentalis often merged with nominate, but it is geographically remote and has some subtle plumage differences.
The following 4 subspecies are recognised:
bambuluensis Serle, 1949 - South-eastern Nigeria and south-western Cameroon highlands.
minor Ogilvie-Grant, 1917 - Southern Cameroon, northern Gabon, north-western PRCongo, south-western Central African Republic and northern DRCongo.
jacksoni Sharpe, 1891 - Southern Sudan, eastern DRCongo, Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi and northern Tanzania.
