Habitat
Small shaded streams, marshes, swamps in dense areas of primary rainforest or swamp-forest. Also, the banks of forested rivers and streams in tangled mangrove swamps usually well-away from the coast.

Angola (NB), Benin (NB), Cameroon (B), Central African Republic (NB), Congo [The Democratic Republic of the] (NB), Congo [The Democratic Republic of the] (NB), Côte dIvoire (B), Equatorial Guinea (NB), Gabon (B), Gambia (B), Ghana (NB), Guinea (B), Guinea-bissau (B), Liberia (B), Nigeria (NB), Senegal (B), Sierra Leone (B), Togo (NB).

Vagrant to Mauritania (NB).

Equatorial rain forest belt of western Africa, from Sierra Leone east to Cameroon, Gabon, Zaire and Central African Republic.
 
Population
Estimated population is 25,000 - 100,000 (2010).

Status LC
Habitat destruction and trade are the main threats.
