Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest, dry savanna, urban areas, rural gardens. From sea-level - 1,000 m.
Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Côte dIvoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Togo.
Vagrant to Sierra Leone.
Southern Senegambia and Guinea east to northern Nigeria and north-western Cameroon, extending south to the coast in Ivory Coast, Ghana and Togo, but not in Sierra Leone, Liberia or Nigeria; also an apparently isolated population in extreme southern Chad and northern Central African Republic.

Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Ross's Turaco (Musophaga rossae). Birds from eastern end of range formerly awarded separate subspecies, savannicola.
