Estimated population is 250 - 999 (2010) and stable.

Status EN
Predation by feral cats and rats, loss of forest habitat due to logging and mining, hunting are the main threats.

Voice
Like the barking of a small dog, 'gou-gou-gou' at dawn. Loud hissing when alarmed. Rattling calls.
