Breeds from southern Canada (eastern Saskatchewan, central Manitoba, southern Ontario and southern Quebec) southern in USA to northern Kentucky, eastern Pennsylvania and New York. Non-breeding winters from eastern USA (Virginia) south through coastal states to Texas and north-eastern Mexico. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Grass Wren (Cistothorus platensis).
