Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Buff-breasted Wren (Cantorchilus leucotis), Fawn-breasted Wren (Cantorchilus guarayanus) and Long-billed Wren (Cantorchilus longirostris) and sometimes treated as conspecific with Buff-breasted Wren (Cantorchilus leucotis), but distinct in vocalizations and ecology.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
superciliaris (Lawrence, 1869) - Western Ecuador (Manabí south to Guayas).
baroni (Hellmayr, 1902) - Southern Ecuador (El Oro, Loja) and western Peru (south to Ancash).
