Habitat
Atlantic forest, with a preference for edge habitats in rather hilly, broken terrain. From sea-level - 2,300 m.
Argentina (B), Brazil (B), Paraguay (B).
South-eastern Brazil (southern Bahia to southern Santa Catarina), eastern Paraguay and north-eastern Argentina (Misiones). Range poorly known.

Population
Estimated population is 50 - 249 (2010) and decreasing.
Status CR
Clearance and fragmentation of Atlantic forest for colonisation and the expansion of plantation agriculture is the main threat.

Voice
A plaintive 'u-ut'.
Subspecies
Forms superspecies with Maroon-chested Ground-dove (Claravis mondetoura).
No subspecies.
Similar Species
Male Blue Ground-dove (Claravis pretiosa) which is richer blue, and has black wing spots and outer rectrices. Female is more rufescent, especially rump and central rectrices.
