Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:

kirki (Sclater, WL, 1924) - Southern Somalia (Boni Forest), coastal Kenya and north-eastern Tanzania.
keniensis (van Someren, 1923) - Central Kenya (Meru and Ngaia forests).
scopifrons (Peters, 1854) - Coastal south-eastern Tanzania, eastern Mozambique and extreme eastern Zimbabwe.
