Nest
Open, bulky, composed of dry herbage and reed stalks, on the ground beneath a clump of rushes or a low bush.

Eggs (Guide)
4 - 9; buff-grey or greenish, marked with fine and coarse spots of red-brown and sepia; oval; about 55 x 39 mm. Incubation: by both sexes.

Young
Semi-precocial, nidifugous. Tended about eight weeks after hatching.

Subspecies
Was previously placed in the genus Gallinula.

No subspecies.

Similar Species
Vagrant Black-tailed Native-hen (Tribonyx ventralis).
