Lilian's Lovebird (Agapornis lilianae)

Isolated populations in southern Tanzania, north-western Mozambique and southern end of L Malombe, Malawi; south-eastern Zambia along middle Zambesi to northern Zimbabwe, where patchy. Introduced into eastern Zambia with escapes in southern Namibia.

Population
Estimated population is 10,000 - 19,999 (2010).

Status NT
Trapping for the cage-bird trade is the main threat.

Habits
Very social. In noisy flocks of 20-100 birds and more, particularly where food abundant.

Food
Grass seeds, millet, sorghum and seeds of annual herbs, flowers, berries and leaf buds.

Voice
High-pitched, twittering uttered in flight or when perched.

Clutch Size: 3 - 8
Dimensions: 20 x 16 mm (slightly elliptical)

Subspecies
Sometimes regarded as conspecific with Black-cheeked Lovebird (Agapornis nigrigenis) and also on occasion with Fischer's Lovebird (Agapornis fischeri) and Yellow-collared Lovebird (Agapornis personatus). Perhaps best considered to form superspecies with all three.

No subspecies.
