Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest. Also, subtropical and tropical mangroves, plantations. From sea-level - 1,400 m.

Range (Guide)
Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore (E), Thailand, Vietnam.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
Additional proposed subspecies are astilpna (described from Bokpyin, in Tenasserim), intensiflava (Kossoom, Tenasserim), copha (Tapanuli Bay, in north-western Sumatra), pleoxantha (Mt Lembu, on Nias I) and isopega (Pagai Is, off western Sumatra), all considered inseparable from nominate.

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

  • chrysogenys (Temminck, 1826)   -  Extreme southern Myanmar (southern Tenasserim), southern Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, Riau and Lingga Archipelagos, Sumatra and most satellites, western Borneo and western Java.
  • harrissoni Deignan, 1957   -  Eastern Borneo.
