Nest
A pouch with a side entrance, composed of this strips of vegetation, lichen, bark bound with cobweb, suspended from a low branch, wires or other man-made objects.

2. Incubation: 15 - 17 days; by female only.

Subspecies
Genus often subsumed in Nectarinia. Has sometimes been considered to be part of a superspecies that also includes Orange-tufted Sunbird (Cinnyris bouvieri), Palestine Sunbird (Cinnyris osea), Oustalet's Sunbird (Cinnyris oustaleti) and White-breasted Sunbird (Cinnyris talatala).

The following 3 subspecies are recognised:

  • brevirostris (Blanford, 1873)   -  Eastern Arabian Peninsula (northern United Arab Emirates, northern and central Oman), and south-eastern Iran, eastern Afghanistan, Pakistan and western India (western Rajasthan and western Gujarat).
  • asiaticus (Latham, 1790)   -  India (except western and eastern ), Nepal and Sri Lanka.
  • intermedius (Hume, 1870)   -  Eastern India (Assam south to Orissa and northern Andra Pradesh) and Bangladesh east to Myanmar, southern China (southern Yunnan) and Indochina.
