Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest. Also plantations.
Brunei Darussalam (B) (R) (NB), Indonesia (B) (R) (NB), Malaysia (B) (R) (NB), Thailand (B) (R) (NB).
Southern Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra and Borneo.

Subspecies
Birds from Peninsular Malaysia and others from north-eastern Sumatra proposed as respective subspecies diluta and pulla , but differences from those elsewhere in species' range negligible.
