Habitat
Primary and secondary lowland dipterocarp and peatswamp forest. From sea-level - 400 m.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.

Status NT
Habitat loss through clearing and fires are the main threats.

Small fruits and invertebrates.

Voice
A rapidly repeated nasal 'chi-wit'. Song is a musical 'er-whit' or 'wher-it'.

Subspecies
Proposed subspecies perplexa (from Labuan Kelambu, in Borneo) invalid, as described from a standard juvenile specimen.

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

olivacea Oberholser, 1918 - Southern Myanmar (Tenasserim), southern Thailand (south of 14� north), Peninsular Malaysia, Riau Archipelago and Sumatra (including Batu Is, Bangka and Belitung).
charlottae (Finsch, 1867) - Anambas Is (east of Peninsular Malaysia), northern Natunas and Borneo (including Banggi I). Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Charlotte's Bulbul (Iole charlottae).
