Subspecies
Has been considered conspecific with Great Myna (Acridotheres grandis). White-vented Myna (Acridotheres javanicus) and Pale-bellied Myna (Acridotheres cinereus) previously treated as subspecies.
The following 4 subspecies are recognised:
fuscus (Wagler, 1827) - Northern Pakistan east through Himalayan foothills to north-eastern India (Assam), southern in lower hills to Rajasthan and northern Orissa, and to Bangladesh. Also Myanmar (except north).
mahrattensis (Sykes, 1832) - Western India from Rajasthan south to Kerala, east to western Tamil Nadu.
fumidus Ripley, 1950 - Eastern Assam and Nagaland, in north-eastern India.
