Habitat destruction is the main threat.

Subspecies
Affinities uncertain. Has sometimes been thought to form a superspecies with Rufous-throated Flycatcher (Ficedula rufigula) and Cinnamon-chested Flycatcher (Ficedula buruensis), with which it shares the character of a bright blue eyelid.

The following 3 subspecies are recognised:

muelleri (Sharpe, 1879) - Southern Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra and Borneo.
dumetoria (Wallace, 1864) - Java and Lesser Sundas (Lombok, Sumbawa, Satonda, Flores).
riedeli (B�ttikofer, 1886) - Tanimbar Is (Larat, Yamdena). Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Tanimbar Flycatcher (Ficedula riedeli).
