Subspecies
Birds in Sula Is, currently included in subspecies jugosae, may represent an undescribed subspecies. In Philippines, birds from Mindoro have on occasion been separated as subspecies mindorensis, but doubtfully separable from Luzon birds. The junior synonym "dulangana" has sometimes been used in recent times for Mindoro (and, if lumped, Luzon) birds, but this name is applicable only in the event of present genus being merged with both Muscicapa and Cyornis. Subspecies calayensis known only from type specimen, which was subsequently destroyed and validity is very doubtful, and might not even be referable to present species. Subspecies mjobergi sometimes erroneously listed as "mjoebergi" but this emendation is unjustified, as based on a non-German name (named after Swedish director of Sarawak Museum).

hyperythra (Blyth, 1843) - Central and eastern Himalayas east to north-eastern India (Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram), west, northern and eastern Myanmar, south-central China (south-eastern Xizang, Sichuan, Yunnan, Guangxi, Guangdong, Hainan), northern Thailand and northern and central Indochina. Winters at lower altitudes, and south to Bangladesh and central Myanmar.
betinabiru - Central Himalayas to south-central China, northern and central Indochina, northern Thailand and Myanmar.
innexa (Swinhoe, 1866) - Taiwan.
sumatrana (Hachisuka, 1926) - Malay Peninsula and highlands of western Sumatra and northern Borneo.
mjobergi (Hartert, 1925) - Poi Mts, in western Borneo.
vulcani (Robinson, 1918) - Java, Bali and western Lesser Sundas (Lombok, Sumbawa, Flores).
calayensis (McGregor, 1921) - Calayan (off northern Luzon), in northern Philippines. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Thicket Flycatcher (Ficedula luzoniensis).
luzoniensis (Ogilvie-Grant, 1894) - Luzon and Mindoro (northern Philippines). Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Thicket Flycatcher (Ficedula luzoniensis).
rara (Salomonsen, 1977) - Mantalingajan Mts, in southern Palawan (western Philippines). Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Thicket Flycatcher (Ficedula luzoniensis).
nigrorum (Whitehead, 1897) - West-central Philippines (Panay, Negros). Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Thicket Flycatcher (Ficedula luzoniensis).
malindangensis Rand and Rabor, 1957 - Mt Malindang, in north-western Mindanao (southern Philippines). Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Thicket Flycatcher (Ficedula luzoniensis).
daggayana Meyer de Schauensee and duPont, 1962 - North-central Mindanao (Misamis Oriental province). Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Thicket Flycatcher (Ficedula luzoniensis).
montigena (Mearns, 1905) - Mt Kitanglad, Mt McKinley and Mt Apo, in central Mindanao. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Thicket Flycatcher (Ficedula luzoniensis).
matutumensis Kennedy, 1987 - Mt Busa and Mt Matutum, in southern Mindanao. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Thicket Flycatcher (Ficedula luzoniensis).
annalisa (Stresemann, 1931) - Northern Sulawesi.
jugosae (Riley, 1921) - Central, south-eastern and southern Sulawesi, including Sula Is (Taliabu).
pallidipectus (Hartert, 1903) - Bacan (off south-western Halmahera), in Moluccas.
alifura (Stresemann, 1912) - Buru (southern Moluccas).
