Habitat
Temperate forest. Also, subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest, dry forest, temperate shrubland, arable land, urban areas, rural gardens.
China (mainland), Hong Kong (China), Japan, North Korea (B), Philippines, Russia (Asian), South Korea, Taiwan (China).
Vagrant to Germany.
South-eastern Russia, north-eastern China, Korea, and has bred Japan (south-western Honshu). Non-breeding southern China (south of R Yangtze), southern Japan and Taiwan.

Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Formerly treated as conspecific with Brown-headed Thrush (Turdus chrysolaus ) and sometimes also with Izu Thrush (Turdus celaenops ) or Eyebrowed Thrush (Turdus obscurus ).
