Subspecies
Relationships of genus uncertain. Has been considered, on grounds of DNA-DNA hybridization, to belong with the vangas in the family Vangidae, and also linked with the bush-shrikes in Malaconotidae.

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

pyrhoptera (Temminck, 1836) - Extreme southern Myanmar (southern Tenasserim), southern Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo and offshore islands.
dubia Hartert, 1894 - Natuna Is.
