Subspecies
Population of Batu Is (off western Sumatra) named as subspecies nesiotis, but considered inseparable from nominate. Taxonomic status of northern Natuna Is (southern China Sea) population yet to be resolved and currently included in nominate, but further study needed.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
viridissima (Bonaparte, 1850) - Extreme southern Myanmar (southern Tenasserim) and south-western Thailand south to Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and satellites, northern Natuna Is and Borneo.
thapsina Oberholser, 1917 - Siantan I (possibly also other islands), in Anamba Group (east of Peninsular Malaysia).
