Subspecies
Subspecies dobsoni, considerably different from all others in plumage and proportions, also with different call, sometimes considered a full species. Distinctive subspecies vordermani may also merit elevation to species rank. Subspecies cebuensis (from Cebu, in central Philippines) extinct.
The following 16 subspecies are recognised:
dobsoni (Ball, 1872) - Andaman Is. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Andaman Cuckooshrike (Coracina dobsoni).
sumatrensis (Müller, S, 1843) - Extreme southern Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia (including Tioman I), Sumatra (including Mentawai Is), Riau Archipelago, and Borneo and islands.
simalurensis (Richmond, 1903) - Simeulue I, off western Sumatra.
babiensis (Richmond, 1903) - Babi I, off western Sumatra.
kannegieteri (Büttikofer, 1896) - Nias I, off western Sumatra.
enganensis (Salvadori, 1892) - Enggano I, off western Sumatra.
bungurensis (Hartert, 1894) - Anamba Is and northern Natuna Is.
panayensis (Steere, 1890) - Central Philippines (Ticao, Masbate, Panay, Guimaras, Negros). Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Visayan Cuckooshrike (Coracina panayensis).
