Brunei Darussalam (B), Indonesia (B), Malaysia (B).

Population
Estimated population is 10,000 - 19,999 (2010) and decreasing.

Status VU
Loss of lowland forests due to logging, drought and fire, is the main threat.

Habits
Feeds on the ground. Sometimes seen hopping along forest trails.

Food
Caterpillars and other insects, worms, arthropods.

Voice
A soft, descending, trisyllabic whistle 'ppor-wi-iil', or a disyllabic 'por-wii...'.

Nest
A ball composed of dead leaves at the base of understorey vegetation.

Eggs (Guide)
2; glossy white with speckled with purplish-brown.

Subspecies
Formerly placed in monotypic genus Iridipitta, on basis of dark purplish-blue underparts, unique among pittas. Alternatively linked with Eucichla group.

No subspecies.
