Habitat
Fruiting trees in lowland forest.

Range (Guide)
Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia (B), India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam.

Vagrant to Pakistan.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Voice
Varied, mainly guttural cackles and croaks, lacking modulated crooning normally associated with doves.

Subspecies
Most closely allied to Pink-necked Green-Pigeon (Treron vernans). Validity of subspecies requires verification.

The following 4 subspecies are recognised:

  • leggei Hartert, 1910   -  Sri Lanka.
  • bicinctus (Jerdon, 1840)   -  Indian Subcontinent (Himalayan foothills of Uttar Pradesh south to western Ghats and Kerala, and east to Assam) through Myanmar and Thailand (except central) to southern Laos, southern and central Vietnam and northern Malaysia.
  • domvilii (Swinhoe, 1870)   -  Hainan I.
  • javanus Robinson and Kloss, 1923   -  Java and Bali.
