Subspecies
Probably forms superspecies with Javan Scops-Owl (Otus angelinae ). Has been considered conspecific with Javan Scops-Owl (Otus angelinae ), but the two differ in morphology and possibly in behaviour.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
solokensis (Hartert, 1893) - Sumatra.
brookii (Sharpe, 1892) - Borneo.
