Subspecies
Sometimes placed in monotypic genus Penthoceryx or included in Cuculus by some authors.

The following 5 subspecies are recognised:

sonneratii (Latham, 1790) - India, Nepal, Thailand, Malay Peninsula.
musicus (Ljungh, 1803) - Java, Bali.
fasciolatus (M�ller, S, 1843) - Sumatra.
waiti (Baker, ECS, 1919) - Sri Lanka.
malayanus (Chasen & Kloss, 1931) - Malay Peninsula.
