Habitat
Scrub, broadleaf forests and forest edges.
Bangladesh, Bhutan (B), Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, China (mainland), India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam.
Vagrant to Japan, Palau.
India to Indonesia, north to eastern China. Accidental to Korea and Japan.

Voice
A loud hoarse 'kurii kurii', a harsh 'creech-creech-creech', a series of double metallic whistles 'beep beep' and a cackling rattle 'ghee ghe-ghuh-ghuh-ghuh-ghuh'.
