Habitat
Coastal areas favouring mangroves (particularly old growth), creeks and tidal rivers.

Range (Guide)

Bangladesh (B), India (B), Malaysia (B), Myanmar (B), Thailand (B).

Eastern India (from Orissa) eastern along coast and islands to Myanmar, then south, including Mergui Archipelago, to western coast of Thailand and to islands of north-western Peninsular Malaysia.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.

Status NT
Clearance and degradation of mangroves is the main threat.

Subspecies
Genus sometimes merged into Halcyon. In the past, genus name given as Ramphalcyon, but Pelargopsis has priority.
