Habitat
Primary and old secondary lowland and hill forest and bamboo. From sea-level - 1,000 m, and in some areas up to 1,500 m.

Brunei Darussalam (B) (NB), Indonesia (B) (NB), Malaysia (B) (NB), Myanmar (B) (NB), Thailand (B) (NB).

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.

Status NT
Habitat destruction and degradation through logging and land conversion, forest fires, trapping for the cage-bird industry, are the main threats.

Subspecies
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

longirostris Ogilvie-Grant, 1905 - Southern Burma and southern Thailand south through Malay Peninsula to Sumatra; western and southern Borneo.
dulitensis Ogilvie Grant, 1895 - Mountains of northern Borneo. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Dulit Partridge (Rhizothera dulitensis).
