Subspecies
Proposed subspecies drakensbergi (north-eastern South Africa) synonymized with nominate.
The following 4 subspecies are recognised:
iolaema Reichenow, 1900 - Southern Sudan south to Malawi and northern Mozambique.
kivuensis Schouteden, 1937 - South-western Uganda and eastern DRCongo.
namaquensis Sclater, WL, 1911 - Southern Namibia and western and central South Africa (Northern Cape east to Free State).
caffra (Linnaeus, 1771) - Zimbabwe and north, eastern and southern South Africa (south to western Cape), including Swaziland and Lesotho.
