Subspecies
The following 4 subspecies are recognised:
- pallida Nelson, 1928 - North-western Mexico (southern Chihuahua, Sinaloa and Durango).
- saturata Sutton and Burleigh, 1939 - North-eastern Mexico (eastern San Luis Potosi and south-western Tamaulipas).
- abeillei (Lesson, 1839) - Central and southern Mexico (Guerrero, and Michoacán east to Veracruz and northern Oaxaca).
- cobanensis Nelson, 1928 - Southern Mexico (south-eastern Chiapas) east to south-western Guatemala.
