Has been thought by some to form a superspecies with Boucard's Wren (Campylorhynchus jocosus) and Cactus Wren (Campylorhynchus brunneicapillus). Sometimes regarded as a subspecies of Cactus Wren (Campylorhynchus brunneicapillus), but differs significantly in plumage, voice, behaviour and nest form.
