Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest, swamp forest. From sea-level - 1,800 m.
Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico.

Subspecies
Formerly considered conspecific with Black-faced Antthrush (Formicarius analis), but differs in both plumage and song.
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
- moniliger Sclater, PL, 1857 - Caribbean slope from southern Mexico (southern from central Veraguas) east to Guatemala (except Petén).
- pallidus Lawrence, 1882 - Yucatan Peninsula (in south-eastern Yucatan, Campeche and Quintana Roo) and northern Guatemala (northern Petén).
- intermedius Ridgway, 1908 - Eastern Guatemala (presumed), Belize and north-western Honduras.
