Voice
Call is a rapid 'weet weet weet weet'. Song is a very fast high-pitched 'bip-bip-bip-dididiup-bip-bip-bibibiseer'.

Nest
Saucer-shaped composed of moss, liverworts and lichens located on a branch or vine, usually concealed among ferns, bromeliads and other epiphytes about 4 � 27 m above the ground.

Eggs (Guide)
2; white with brown blotches. Incubation: 15 � 16 days; by female.

Subspecies
Formerly considered conspecific with Olive Flycatcher (Mitrephanes olivaceus).

The following 4 subspecies are recognised:

phaeocercus (Sclater, 1859) - Mountains of eastern and central Mexico south to El Salvador and north-eastern Nicaragua.
tenuirostris Brewster, 1888 - Western Mexico, from Sonora and Chihuahua south to Jalisco.
aurantiiventris (Lawrence, 1865) - Costa Rica and Panama.
berlepschi Hartert, 1902 - Extreme eastern Panama (Cerro Pirre) and north-western Colombia south to north-western Ecuador.
