Habitat
Arid montane scrub, and particularly mesquite in arid scrub. From 900 - 2,000 m.

Range (Guide)

Guatemala (B) (NB), Mexico (B) (NB).

South-western Mexico, from central Michoac�n and Morelos east to Oaxaca (west of Isthmus of Tehuantepec); recently found in north-western Guatemala.

Population
Estimated population is 20,000 - 49,999 (2010).

Status LC
Habitat destruction and degradation due to agricultural expansion, including coffee and citrus plantations and cattle-ranching, is the main threat.

Voice
A two-phrased song, a whistled 'twheeyu', then a rolling trill and abrupt whistle 'tr-r-r-eet-yu'. Also a 'chee-up'.

Composed of grasses and other plant fibres, and bound to a fork in a low thorny thicket using spider silk.
