First Described (Guide)
Dwight & Griscom, 1927

Habitat
Dense scrubby (and especially oak) woodland. From 1,200 - 2,000 m.

Range (Guide)
El Salvador (B) (NB), Guatemala (B) (NB), Mexico (B) (NB).

Interior and adjacent Pacific slope of southern Mexico (Chiapas) southern locally to north-western El Salvador.
 
Population
Estimated population is 20,000 - 49,999 (2010).

Status NT
Habitat destruction through widespread clearance, principally to coffee cultivation and logging, as well as uncontrolled fires, is the main threat.
