Habitat
Temperate grassland. From 200 - 2,000 m.
Canada (B), Mexico, USA (B).
South-western Canada through western and west-central USA to northern Mexico; winters to east-central USA and north-central Mexico.

Subspecies
May form superspecies with Laggar Falcon (Falco jugger) and Lanner Falcon (Falco biarmicus), and perhaps also with Saker Falcon (Falco cherrug) and Gyrfalcon (Falco rusticolus). Probably closer to Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus).
No subspecies.
