Subspecies
Possible subspecies pallidus likely to be indistinct from nominate or representing northern end of cline.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
- cyanopygius (Souancé, 1856) - Western Mexico.
- insularis (Ridgway, 1888) - Tres Marías Is, off western Mexico.
