Habitat
Open pine forest on relatively flat plateaus with large numbers of snags for foraging and nesting. From 1,675 - 3,050 m.
Mexico (E) (B).
Western Mexico in Sierra Madre Occidental, from western Sonora and Chihuahua south to Jalisco and Michoacán (probably extinct).

Mainly beetle larvae.
