Subspecies
Possibly conspecific with Northern Bobwhite (Colinus virginianus).

The following 4 subspecies are recognised:

persiccus van Tyne & Trautman, 1941 - Progreso area of Yucat�n, south-eastern Mexico.
caboti van Tyne & Trautman, 1941 - Northern Campeche, Yucat�n (except Progreso area) and northern Quintana Roo, south-eastern Mexico.
nigrogularis (Gould, 1843) - Belize and northern Guatemala.
segoviensis Ridgway, 1888 - Eastern Honduras and north-eastern Nicaragua.
