Habitat destruction through looging is the main threat.

Closely related to and often considered to form a superspecies with Leaden Flycatcher (Myiagra rubecula ), Steel-blue Flycatcher (Myiagra ferrocyanea ), Melanesian Flycatcher (Myiagra caledonica ), Vanikoro Flycatcher (Myiagra vanikorensis ) and Samoan Flycatcher (Myiagra albiventris ).
