Subspecies
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

orthonyx (Lafresnaye, 1843) - Andes of Trujillo, M�rida and T�chira in north-western Venezuela, and eastern and central Andes of Colombia.
infuscatus Salvadori & Festa, 1899 - Andes of Ecuador (southern in west to Chimborazo) and north-western Peru (Cerro Chinguela and Cordillera Col�n, in southern Amazonas).
