Vagrant to Falkland Islands (Malvinas).
Central and southern Alaska and central Yukon. Winters on Pacific coast of America, from Alexander Archipelago (south-eastern Alaska) south to Straits of Magellan.
 
Population
Estimated population is 70,000 (2010).
