Mature forests, mangroves. From 120 - 1,000 m.

Population
Estimated population is <50 (2010) and decreasing.
Status CR
Habitat destruction and degradation through clearing, predation by introduced mammals, especially black rat Rattus rattus, are the main threats.

Habits
Usually in small flocks high in the canopy.
Food
Nectar and pollen from flowering trees.
Voice
High-pitched squeaks uttered whilst feeding or in flight.
Subspecies
Formerly listed as Charmosyna aureicincta, a name described in the same year but now relegated to a synonym.
No subspecies.
Similar Species
Easily confused with Collared Lory (Phigys solitarius) which is considerably larger and has black cap and red on the back.
