Habitat
Estuarine waters, inland wetlands.
Canada (B) (NB) (P), USA (B).
Breeds in Alaska and western Canada, wintering along coastal southern Alaska, British Columbia and northern USA; also several resident populations in several states of north-western USA, mostly from reintroductions.
 
Population
Estimated population is 34,000 (2010).
