Madagascar.

Northern, north-western and eastern Madagascar (Montagne d'Ambre, and Tsaratanana and Sambirano, south to Andohahela).

Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Previously treated as a babbler (Timaliidae). Now appears to be part of an independent Malagasy radiation descended from ancestral warblers.
