Population
Estimated population is <50 (2010) and decreasing.
Status CR
Only recorded with certainty once in the last 50 years (in 1995). Reason for decline is not known but habitat loss, bird hunting, and predation by introduced rats are possible contributory factors.

Habits
Usually in pairs.
Food
Insects and fruit. Small berries from shrubs form a large part of the diet. Seeds and grubs are also taken from the ground.
Voice
A shrill 'see-ay' with a bell-like quality.
Subspecies
No subspecies.
Similar Species
Juvenile Micronesian Starling (Aplonis opaca) may appear all dark and have dark eyes, but is larger, with heavier bill, and accompanies adults of its species.
