Subspecies
No subspecies.

Forms a superspecies with Rufous Spinetail (Synallaxis unirufa) and Rusty-headed Spinetail (Synallaxis fuscorufa) and all three have sometimes been considered conspecific, but substantial vocal differences documented and reciprocal playback trials reveal pronounced vocal discrimination.
