Habitat
Lower and middle strata of tall, second growth forest, edge and adjacent clearings, preferring more humid areas of moist forest near springs and streams. From 600 - 800 m.
Southern Ceará (Chapada do Araripe), in north-eastern Brazil.
 
Population
Estimated population is 250 - 999 (2010) and decreasing.
Status CR
Habitat destruction and degradation through clearance for agriculture, cattle raising and the construction of homes, is the main threat.

Voice
Quite similar to Helmeted Manakin (Antilophia galeata), a musical and warbled 'uí-guru, guru-uí, guru-uí' with variations. Also 'wreee pur' calls.
